Spain promotes EU-FarmBook as key platform for farm demonstration knowledge exchange

Madrid, 24 March 2026

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) hosted the 7th meeting of the ModernAKIS National Community of Practice (CoP), focused on “Demonstration activities as a tool for extension and innovation” within the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS). More than 150 participants attended.

A central message of the meeting was the role of EU-FarmBook as the European reference platform for documenting demo farms and related activities. Carmen Gil Gómez (MAPA) underlined EU-FarmBook’s function as a trusted, centralised repository to collect and share results from research projects and demonstration initiatives, helping farmers, advisors and foresters access tested practical solutions and connect with European networks that support the uptake of publicly funded innovation.

The platform makes lives easier for famers, advisors, and foresters to find tested practical solutions”, says Carmen Gil Gómez. She also explained the future perspectives of the platform, such as the improvement of the AI tool.

The programme reviewed demonstration models across sectors and technologies, including forestry and livestock advisory networks, experimental farms and training centres, and digital innovation initiatives such as robotics supported through European Digital Innovation Hubs.

The event took place under the ModernAKIS Horizon Europe project, which aims to strengthen AKIS capacities across the EU and support the transition to sustainable natural resource management. MAPA highlighted Spain’s continued work to modernise knowledge exchange through initiatives such as La Vega Innova, the national AKIS Advisors Platform, and active integration into EU-FarmBook.
