EU-FarmBook, is a Horizon Europe project that is working at regional, national, and European (EU) levels, to build a Online Platform, gathering and sharing agriculture and forestry knowledge.
The EU-FarmBook Online Platform is being developed to test a big idea: Can all the tangible outputs of EU-funded research and innovation projects be brought together and organized in one user-friendly platform to help get practical knowledge into the hands of the farmers, foresters, and advisors across Europe who need it most?
The challenges to doing this are great (data or database quality, compatibility issues, language barriers, and intergenerational considerations to name a few), but we believe that the future of agriculture and forestry innovation in Europe is digital, and requires a vastly increased and improved digital exchange of knowledge between EU regions and Member States, as well as between different agricultural stakeholders.
From EURAKNOS and EUREKA to EU-FARMBOOK
To get a clear overview of EU-FarmBook, it is necessary to go back a few years in time to the time of the EURAKNOS and EUREKA projects.
First, EURAKNOS, mapped the knowledge of European H2020 Thematic Networks (TN), enabling the rural community to have easier access to the best agricultural and forestry practices. EUREKA continued this effort by analysing the supply and demand for knowledge generated in 120 Multi-Actor (MA) projects under the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (H2020).
While EURAKNOS developed as an output a prototype of the first European digital reservoir on agricultural and forestry knowledge, EUREKA refined and evolved it into a first working version of the so-called EU FarmBook.
EU-FarmBook will build on the results of EURAKNOS and EUREKA, making the data taken up in the Digital Platform more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable while adding necessary functionalities based on the user’s needs. Learn more about EURAKNOS and EUREKA, here.
The Mission
EU-FarmBook is the answer to real needs of farmers, foresters and advisors. The Horizon Europe project offers an interactive, multi-lingual meeting place for agriculture and forestry communities, giving access to trustworthy knowledge objects according to findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) data principles. EU-FarmBook users can interact and explore innovative ways to solve their daily challenges.
Tangible impact of EU-FarmBook is generated via practice-oriented communications, various dissemination channels, on farm demonstrations, and widespread educational programs. Together with the related projects modernAKIS and ATTRACTISS, EU-FarmBook supports the Member States’ AKIS Actors, CAP Networks and EIP-AGRI Service Points in a multi-actor approach.
The Vision
EU-FarmBook is the point of reference for farmers, foresters and advisors.
