EU-FarmBook Research Team wins ENLIGHT Impact Award 2024

June, Bilbao,2024

Inge De Bo, Eduard Mauri and Daniela Lud have been honored with the ENLIGHT Impact Ambassador Award 2024 with their inspiring presentation about EU-FarmBook in Bilbao, Spain. This award recognizes exceptional contributions in the context of the key topic “Digital Revolution and the Effects of Digitalization” and includes a prize of 5000 euros.

ENLIGHT is a project involving 10 European universities that aims to transform European higher education, remove barriers to learning, and empower learners to engage globally and address global challenges. The winners were acknowledged for their significant contributions under the flagship theme “Digital Revolution and the Impact of Digitization.”

Hundreds of European research projects generate knowledge useful for tackling important challenges such as climate change. This knowledge could be utilized by thousands of farmers, foresters, and advisors. “This is facilitated when we connect scientists with professionals through an online knowledge platform”, says Inge De Bo, scientific coordinator of EU-FarmBook from Ghent University. The new open interactive online platform EU-FarmBook for agriculture and forestry went online on 8 February 2024 and invites contributions to support Europe’s transition to sustainable agriculture and forestry by making innovative knowledge accessible.

Inge De Bo and her team, including EU-FarmBook consortium members Eduard Mauri (European Forest Institute) and Daniela Lud (Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences) won over the jury with their excellent approach to ensuring reach and significance of the impact: “To reach the maximum number of potential end-users (farmers and foresters), EU-FarmBook will engage with multipliers, such as advisors, consultants, extension services, as well as with traditional dissemination channels” as the jury stated. The major focus on ensuring uptake, leading to impact, was highlighted.

The rationale for the award also emphasizes, that the “EU-FarmBook project is well-organized and engages a diverse group of stakeholders, creating significant opportunities for widespread impact. The tasks are smartly assigned to meet the project’s goal of making the EU-FarmBook accessible to a wide audience, including farmers, foresters, educators, and students.”

The award money will be used for travelling and conference fees to enhance project impact of EU-FarmBook. Stay connected as we drive impactful change alongside the partners of the EU-FarmBook impact research team, now supported by impact experts from the ENLIGHT Consortium.
