EU Commissioner Christophe Hansen wants “to bring innovations into the stables”
EU Commissioner Christophe Hansen, who has only been in office for six weeks, received a lot of attention at “Grüne Woche” in January in Berlin. At the press conference on 16th of January Hansen announced, that he will present his vision for the future of the Common Agricultural Policy in March. He considers innovations to be key for the transition in agriculture. “We know that there are many innovations in the starting blocks, we have to bring them into the stables,” he demanded. He emphasised the need for dialogue and cooperation with all stakeholders in order to find the right path. His messages received a lot of applause: Being the son and brother of a farmer, he seems to know the practical concerns first hand and to represent them credibly.
Innovations for agriculture were a central topic at Grüne Woche 2025 in Berlin: More than 1.800 media experts from 26 countries were reporting from the fair, which is regarded as a leading trade fair for sustainable agriculture, innovative technologies, food security and food trends.
The German Guild of Agricultural Journalists VDAJ traditionally organizes exclusive press talks for journalists at Grüne Woche and discusses current topics. A current topic among agricultural journalists is EU-FarmBook. The online platform is expected to play an important role in innovation transfer into agricultural practice by providing information on EU funded research. During the VDAJ’s board meeting at Grüne Woche, Katharina Seuser presented the programme of the ENAJ-EU-FarmBook pressevent 2025. Agricultural journalists will report first-hand on this pressevent, which will be organized at the University of Bonn, Germany.
